Ras Mohammed is home to the Nubian ibex in the mountainous areas, as well as small mammals, reptiles, and nocturnal insects. The reserve also hosts many important birds, including herons and seagulls. It covers an area of 480 km² and experiences extremely hot weather in summer and moderate temperatures in winter.Ras Mohammed was declared a nature reserve because it contains several highly sensitive and important ecological systems, such as coral reefs, mangrove habitats, desert medicinal plants, coastal environments including clay plains and salt flats, and seagrass ecosystems.

Ras Mohammed is an Egyptian nature reserve in South Sinai, located about 12 km from Sharm El-Sheikh. It borders the Gulf of Aqaba to the east and the Gulf of Suez to the west. The reserve was established in 1983. Diving and swimming are popular activities in Ras Mohammed.

This reserve is located at the meeting point of the Gulf of Suez and the Gulf of Aqaba, forming the eastern edge of Ras Mohammed as a rocky cliff adjacent to the gulf waters, which contain coral reefs. The mangrove channel separates the Ras Mohammed Peninsula from Baheira Island, stretching about 250 meters.Ras Mohammed is distinguished by its coral beaches in the depths of its waters, colorful fish, endangered sea turtles, and rare marine life. Coral reefs surround Ras Mohammed on all sides, creating a unique formation that greatly influences the natural ecosystem of the area.
